28th President and native of Staunton Woodrow Wilson and his beloved 1919 Pierce Arrow presidential limo will visit the Staunton Braves at John Moxie Memorial Stadium in Gypsy Hill Park on Friday at 7pm.
The former president, portrayed by local historian Judd Bankert, is a huge baseball fan in this life and will throw the first throw. The 1919 Pierce Arrow is the oldest operating presidential limousine in the country and is on permanent display in the museum at 20 North Coalter Street in downtown Staunton.
Before the game, Woodrow Wilson will be available for photos and autographs. Game visitors will receive $ 2 off entry to the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum and a 20 percent discount coupon at the President’s Gift Shop.
The Staunton Braves are one of 11 teams in the Valley Baseball League – one of the oldest and most prestigious college summer leagues in the country. Founded in 1923, the Valley Baseball League offers top college players a place in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley to play pure wooden bat baseball against high-profile competition in a festive community atmosphere.
The Valley League is one of 11 leagues supported and partially funded by Major League Baseball, and is one of 11 leagues affiliated with the NACSB – an alliance of college summer woodbeater leagues that make up the NCAA Follow rules. The VBL has been named one of the top leagues in the country by Baseball America.
