Sports cars aren’t known for their generous amounts of space, but station wagons are designed to haul loads without fuss. So can the Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo successfully combine these two opposing concepts? Type of.
Up in the front seats you have decent head, shoulder and legroom, but the seats are deep like a sports car.
Storage options aren’t as plentiful with a slim door pocket, two cup holders and shallow underarm storage, but there’s a hidden compartment for your wallet and keys here behind the air-conditioning unit.
The rear seat is cramped, especially with the optional sport seats, an extra $1000, but even 183-cm adults should find it comfortable enough in the two outer positions.
The center seat is hampered by a narrow base and limited legroom, however, but doubles as a fold-down armrest with cup holders when not in use.
The only other second row storage solution are small door pockets that can hold water bottles.
In the rear, however, there are ISOFIX child mounting points so child seats can be fitted, and even with the seat rear-facing there’s still plenty of room for the front passengers.
The door opening is also large enough for you to easily get the little boy in and out.
Opening the boot reveals enough space to gulp down 405 liters of volume, which isn’t as cavernous as most wagons out there (the Skoda Octavia RS wagon has 640 l of storage, for example), but it’s adequate for a stroller, groceries and a diaper bag.
Note, however, that the household charging cable takes up quite a bit of space. So leave it at home when transporting large items, or make do with the DC fast charging cable tucked under the trunk floor.
Fold the seats and the volume swells to 1171 l, which is still significantly behind other cars. So don’t expect to help with Ikea trips in the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo.
As an electric car, the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo also has a storage compartment under the hood that holds just 84 liters – or a backpack or two.
Overall, the Cross Turismo is more practical than the sedan, but not in the way many would expect from a station wagon.
Don’t get us wrong, it’s certainly suitable for everyday activities, even if you’re carrying around a one-year-old baby. But the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo isn’t a Tardis for space like big-booted versions of the Mazda6, Skoda Octavia or Volkswagen Golf.
